and Resident Safety
When you or a family member is admitted to St.
Michael’s Hospital or Nursing Home, we want to
make sure you receive the best and safest care possible.
Our staff is committed to providing the best quality
care to you and your family in a friendly and safe environment.
St. Michael’s has established a safety committee
made up of representative from administration, medical
staff, laundry, nursing service, engineering, housekeeping
and dietetic departments. Other departments have been
added, in addition, such as pharmacy, employee health,
and infection control/quality assurance.
Safety Committee Goals
The Safety Committee’s goal of providing a safe
environment and error prevention is accomplished by:
• Developing policies and procedures to enhance
safe work practices.
• Evaluating and correcting all unsafe work practices,
conditions, and equipment.
• Recommending equipment to enhance patient and
employee safety.
• Initiating and conducting training programs
to acquaint all employees with safe practices.
• Conducting required and annual drills such as
fire, tornado, and missing persons.
• Conducting safety rounds.
• Measuring outcomes of safety committee recommendations
and making any needed changes.
• Evaluating any safety concern brought up by
staff, patients, or family members.
• Complying with all federal and state safety
regulations.
Accomplishments:
Examples of the Safety Committee’s accomplishments
include but are not limited to the following:
• Developing a Safe Patient Handling Committee
• Initiating the HICS program (Hospital Incident
Command) for emergency conditions
• Developing a facility wide Lock Down policy
• Upgrading the security system cameras, phones,
etc.
